Suzlon signs MoU with AP government for development of 3,000 MW in state
Signed under the auspices of Partnership Summit 2012
Development could deliver investments of Rs. 18,000 crore in the state of Andhra Pradesh
Pune: Suzlon Energy Limited (SEL), the worlds fifth* leading and Indias largest
wind turbine manufacturer, today announced a memorandum of understanding
(MoU) with the Government of Andhra Pradesh for the development of wind capacity
in the state totaling 3,000 MW between 2012 and 2016, creating potential
investments of up to Rs 18,000 crore.
The MoU was signed under the auspices of the Partnership Summit 2012 in the
presence of Hon Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, N Kiran Kumar Reddy. Under the
MoU the Andhra Pradesh government will facilitate Suzlon in obtaining necessary
permissions, registrations, approvals and clearances for the development of the wind
farms. Suzlon, in turn, will play the role of a developer and facilitate the
channelization of investments into the state through its customers investing in wind
energy.
Speaking on the development, Tulsi Tanti, Chairman Suzlon Group, said: We
are extremely pleased to sign this MoU with the Government of Andhra Pradesh. This
not only reinforces Andhra Pradeshs position as one of Indias emerging markets in
wind energy, but also illustrates their commitment to power a low-carbon economy
by embracing progressive policies to power rapidly growing economy of the state.
The MoU covers the development of new capacity in windfarms across the state, with
development planned in the districts of Tallimadugula, Alankarayanipeta, Gandikota,
Vajrakarur, Tirumalayapalli and other parts of Andhra Pradesh. Andhra Pradesh is a
key emerging wind market in the country, with medium to low wind sites ideally
suited to Suzlons new S9X suite of turbines.
