Suzlon wins second Sri Lanka order

  • Repeat order from Sri Lankan conglomerate Senok Group
  • Order for 10 units of the S88 - 2.1 MW turbine, aggregating to 21 MW
  • New order takes Senok’s wind portfolio to over 31 MW

Pune: Suzlon Energy Limited (SEL), world’s fifth largest* and India’s largest wind turbine
manufacturer, won a repeat order from Senok to supply 10 units of Suzlon’s S88 - 2.1 MW
wind turbine generators, aggregating to 21 MW of wind power capacity. The project will be
commissioned in two phases and be completed by May 2012.

Speaking on the order Mr Noel Selvanayagam, President, Senok Group, said: “This new

Suzlon has previously supplied a 10 MW wind project to the Senok Group, the order marked
key firsts for Sri Lanka’s wind energy sector – as the first project to feature megawatt class
turbines, and also the first project by any private developer in the island nation. The new 21
MW project will come up alongside the existing project site in the Puttalm district of Sri
Lanka.

Senok Group, is a diversified business conglomerate of Sri Lanka with interests across
construction machinery, automotives, infrastructure development, tea, haulage and mining.
The Group has an established presence in the clean energy space with its wind portfolio and
investments in mini hydro projects.
