Smart Technology

Smart technology is at the heart of the S97. Improved nacelle and rotor design and the addition of proven DFIG variable-speed technology ensure better grid compliance.

DFIG (doubly-fed induction generator) prevents damage to the generator from sudden gusts of wind which are observed at low wind speed sites and allows it to generate higher electricity from these gusts. Improved pitch and yaw systems add to the overall stability of the product. Industry-standard components ensure efficiency for customers even at Class IIIA, low wind speed sites. This makes it a good option for sites with low wind regime, increasing the profitability of the site.

The S97 blades have been designed for greater wind generation in low wind regimes; the world’s leading designers and manufacturers have contributed to this design.

To ensure the highest standards in quality for customers, Suzlon tests at levels far exceeding the industry baseline, by simulating the total life cycle of the blade (1 million cycles) in extreme, on-site conditions.

The following features have been included in the design to maximise turbine reliability:

  • A new pitch system with a new pitch master and battery box has been designed and incorporated for better pitching control and operation. This results in higher reliability and better safety systems.
  • A sturdier fourth yaw drive with better yawing control, improved balancing and load sharing makes the turbine more stable.
  • Corrosion protection has been increased for improved dust prevention and an increased life span. This also helps with protection against various climatic conditions.
  • The S97’s blade profile is ideal for maximising energy output in low wind regimes

Safety Features

The safety of the turbine has been greatly enhanced with a Class I Lightning Protection System (in accordance with IEC Class I standards) to ensure the highest protection against lightning. This decreases the probability of accidents and hence minimises the downtime. The turbines run efficiently for a maximum part of their lives without hassles.

Easy Maintenance

For convenience and ease in maintenance, the machines have new features such as access doors, extended beam cranes and optional service lifts, and climb assists. With these new features, maintenance tasks are made easier and downtime for maintenance activity is reduced.
